to replace the book as main

Part II Subsequently, it was verified
which medium can fulfill certain
requirements better.

The multimedia publication is predestined to be nonlinear through its digital options: Information can be quickly linked to each other, there is neither a beginning nor end, pieces of information are »without place« and thus available at any time at any place. The book links form and content more appropriately: The physical and sensual presence of the book, the materiality, the ideal connection to the historical tradition of the book as a source of culture is self-evident and can at best be generated digitally through artifacts.

Ja Ok.

This editorial project is defined through the terms of the input, output and transfer characteristics of a Skype conversation between three people over almost 2 years. An invisible archive was transferred into a new format and story by adding pictures, reorganizing, editing, designing and transforming the existing data. That way the life of three people, their wherabouts, encounters and places they’ve stayed are captured on 247 pages.

The project was created as a collaboration with the city of Schwäbisch Gmünd in the context of its 850th anniversary. It portrays the noble family of the Staufer which once, as it is said, lived in Schwäbisch Gmünd. But in an unconventional way, because the focus doesn’t lies on the lore, but on the strange inconsistencies that comes with it. In a photographic realisation they are highlighted humorously, polemically and sometimes exaggerated by sarcasm.

Miriam Bröckel — Grafik Design
My great passion lays in rhythm and grids and details in type – micro and macro. I love designing rules as much as I love breaking them. I believe in the controllability of chaos through systematization – taking also the irrational and subversive into account, but always referring to content as its legitimation.

I’ve studied graphic design at the HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd, in southern Germany, and the Ecole Cantonale d’art de Lausanne/ECAL, in Switzerland. Furthermore, I did an internship during my studies at Fons Hickmann m23 in Autumn/Winter 2012 in Berlin.

In July 2013 I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Design from the HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd. Since 2014 I work for Anzinger und Rasp in Munich.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch via e-mail for any questions, feedback or collaborations. Full curriculum vitae available on request.
